ANTONIO LONGO

- He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1978 and specialized in General Surgery and Clinical Propaedeutic in 1984 with the highest mark and cum laude.

- From 1982 to 1999 he was level II Medical Director of the Department of Surgical and Anatomical Science at the University of Palermo.

- From 1999 till now he has been Head of Department of Coloproctology and Pelvic Diseases at the St. Elisabeth Hospital of Vienna.

- From 2002 till now he has been President of the European Center of Coloproctology and Pelvic Diseases, where 4000 surgeons have undergone training.

- Visiting surgeon at the “Clinica Zucchi” of Monza, “Clinica Madonna della Fiducia” of Roma, “Clinica Torina” of Palermo.

- In 1995 he elaborated the original technique Stapled Haemorrhoidopexy.

- In 1996 he patented the Kit PPH 01 which in 1998 it was realized and supplied by Ethicon Endo Surgery (EES).

- In 1998 he elaborated the original STARR technique.

- In 2003 he patented the curved staplers. In 2005 Contour 40 and in 2006 Curved Cutter Stapler 30 were realized with relative kit by EES.

- He is author of ODS score and of a recto-anal prolapses classification.

- He is author of 85 scientific pubblications.

- Speaker in more than 1000 national and international congresses.

- He is honorary member of nine foreign associations of coloproctology.

- From 2003 to 2007 he was Honorary President of the Società Italiana Unitaria di Coloproctologia (SIUCP) and he was elected President of the SIUCP in 2007.
