Dr Andri Nieuwoudt

Andri Nieuwoudt trained at Tygerberg Hospital, Stellenbosch University( MB,ChB; M Med O&G; FCOG ( SA)), and then practiced as a gynecologist in private practice in Somerset West, Cape Town, South Africa for the next 18 years. During this period, Dr. Nieuwoudt also developed strong operative skills in prolapse surgery. While in practice, he also retained a strong interest in teaching, leading him to organize annual workshops for general practitioners and midwives. This commitment to medical education has kept him active in internet teaching, where he is Webmaster for a pelvic floor blog site devoted to new aspects of pelvic support disorders (see www.nieuwoudt.nl). Since moving to Europe in 2002, Dr. Nieuwoudt has built a busy pelvic floor clinic at Ziekenhuis Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, at Terneuzen in The Netherlands. From this base, he has maintained a strong interest in vaginal and pelvic organ reconstructive vaginal surgery (especially relating to pelvic floor disorders in the young women and in the patient in whom the initial surgery was not optimally successful) under his direction, Ziekenhuis Zeeuws-Vlaanderen has developed into a vibrant surgical workshop where an international panel of visiting surgeons is permitted to demonstrate operative technique. This program has grown into a valuable Regional Training Centre, where delegates can gain practical experience in the new "defect-specific" methods of prolapse repair
