CV: Dr Stavros Athanasiou
Dr Stavros Athanasiou is currently Director of the
Urogynaecoloy and pelvic floor reconstruction Unit of the 1st Department of
Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University of Athens in the ‘Alexandra’
Hospital in Athens. He is a lecturer of Urogynaecology at the Medical School of
Athens
Dr Athanasiou obtained the medical degree at the University of Athens. He
trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at King’s College Hospital, London and is
a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. (RCOG). In
London, he followed subspecialty training in Urogynaecology under Prof. Linda
Cardozo. His current research projects include assessment of pelvic floor
function using ultrasonography, surgical reconstruction of the pelvic floor,
urinary tract infections and assessment of urinary incontinence.
Dr Athanasiou has organized the IUGA 2006 in Athens and is currently president
of the Hellenic Society of Pelvic Floor Reconstruction and a member of the
International Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Society (IPFDS) and the International
Continence Society (ICS).
