Postgraduate training at University Hospitals of Cleveland (Case-Western Reserve University), Cleveland, Ohio, USA and Washington University, St Louis, Missouri, USA - 3 years postgraduate training in Neurology and Neurophysiology. MRC Research Fellow in Neuropathology and Senior Registrar in Neurology, The London Hospital. Consultant Neurologist The Royal London Hospital, and at St Mark's Hospital, London. Now Emeritus Professor of Neurology, University of London. Member of various British, American, European and Australasian Neurological and other Medical Societies.  Member of Neuroscience Board of the Medical Research Council (1987-1991).Visiting Lecturer/Professor at centres in Western and Eastern Europe, USA, Canada, Far East, South America and Australasia. Editorial Boards of various neurological and other journals. Ombudsman for The Lancet. Publications (500+) in clinical neurology, clinical neurophysiology, neuromuscular diseases, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, pelvic floor disorders, including faecal and urinary incontinence.
