Vittorio Luigi Piloni, MD

 

 

Born on January 13th 1945, Ancona, Italy, Vittorio L. Piloni, graduated in Medicine at the University of Bologna in 1969, received Specialization Certificates in Diagnostic Radiology (1973) and General Radiology (1979) from the same University. Staff member as assistant professor of the Department of Radiology of the Bologna University School and tutor at the Specialization School of Radiology for a seven-year term (1972-1978), he worked as Vice-Head and subsequently Head  at the Radiology Department of the National Geriatric Research Institute of Ancona until 1998, when  he became Head of the Territorial Section of the Radiology Department at the Public Health Service of Ancona.

Vittorio L. Piloni m.d.  has been studying the application of imaging techniques — including X-ray, US and more recently MRI— in the diagnosis of evacuation and voiding dysfunctions since 1973. Worthy of particular note is the oral presentation and subsequent publication in the Proceeding Book at the 1981 ECR, held in Brussels,  of a paper that is recognized as the first report of dynamic assessment of evacuation phenomenon by radiological tool in adults. His main research interest covers the issue of pelvic floor dysfunctions and has led to the production of more than 150 scientific papers, many of which have been published by leading international journals.

Congress speaker in numerous national and international conferences, seminars and courses throughout the world, currently  Vittorio L. Piloni is a member of the Editorial Advisory Boards of  “Pelviperineology” and “Techniques in Coloproctology” Journals; he is also member of the Italian Society of Radiology in Medicine (SIRM),   chief of the Imaging Section of the Italian Society of Colorectal Surgery (SICCR) and is coordinator of a National Guidelines Committee for proper use of Imaging Techniques in Pelvic Floor Dysfunctions involving five major Italian (radiological, sonographic, urological, gynaecological, coloproctolgical) Scientific Societies.
