AAVIS Australian Pelvic Floor Register
The Pelvic Floor Register is a new initiative launched by AAVIS in April 2007 following a pilot study in three hospitals during early 2007.
A large amount of discussion preceded the commencement of the register which should be seen as a first step in developing strategies to audit the implantation of prostheses in Australia. The register is designed to act as an index and make it easy to trace patients in the future. For this reason there is no identifying data for the patient or surgeon. The register records the type of prosthesis, the hospital where implantation occurred, the date of implantation and a traceability label from the prosthesis.
A record of this type does not require Ethics Committee Approval and is designed to act as an index to facilitate contact with patients in the future. At that point in time appropriate ethics committee approval would be sought.
Dr Anne Pike at Concord Hospital, Sydney has agreed to manage the register on behalf of AAVIS.
